Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service
Jan 21, 2019 — by Kayla Holmes
"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" - Martin Luther King, Jr.
In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the Pura Vida Team came together to participate in a Day of Service hosted by the Human Rights Campaign San Diego. Inspired by MLK’s words and a shared commitment to our community and equality, we helped assemble 700 (!!!) backpacks of toiletries, snacks, and other essentials for San Diego’s homeless youth, of which more than 20% are LGBTQ.
Our team, along with over 100 other volunteers, created an assembly line to put together the backpacks! Items included shampoo, conditioner, combs, granola bars, and so many more essentials we use every day.
It was such an amazing opportunity to join the San Diego community and do something good in remembrance of Martin Luther King, Jr. None of this would have been possible without our amazing Charity Coordinator, Kristy!
We highly encourage you to grab your friends, family, or coworkers, and get out to do something good in your community to celebrate as well!
If you want to learn more about the Human Rights Campaign, you can read about them here and be sure to check out any upcoming events they're hosting in your community.
"The time is always right to do what is right." -Martin Luther King, Jr.
